A number of other minor meets take place in Europe this weekend: the Dussmann Indoor Meeting (Saturday, Luxembourg), the Gubernator Prizes (Saturday, Krasnodar RUS), the Meeting National en Salle (Saturday, Bordeaux FRA), the Belarus National Indoor Cup (Friday-Saturday, Mogilyov BLR), and the Elan Indoor Meeting 2011(Sunday, Bratislava CZE).

With no scored matchups among top teams, the emphasis of the weekend is on individual competition.

On Friday and Saturday, the Texas A&M Challenge presented by Mondo America  takes place at  Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station TX.
*There are pair of events which are scheduled to have a matchup of the NCAA’s top two. In the men’s high jump, collegiate leader Ricky Robertson (Mississippi) will face off against Erik Kynard (Kansas State). In the women’s triple jump, collegiate leader Colleen Felix (Georgia) goes up against Jasmine Simmons (Oklahoma).
*Other events are going to come up short of big-time hoped-for matchups. The men’s 400 is missing Tony McQuay (Florida) and Torrin Lawrence (Georgia), leaving Tabarie Henry (TAMU) little real competition. Likewise, Jeff Demps (Florida) is not on the start lists, leaving the 60 meters shy of an anticipated showdown with Gerald Phiri (TAMU).

Thanks for mentioning the pole vault summit, I think it gets less publicity than it deserves. Any time 1000 athletes get together to learn one event, the results are going to be noticeable. Ever wonder why pole vault is the only US field event to garner international success on both the womens and mens sides? The summit and 21 years of dedication from Coach Fraley is why.

You would think other field events would follow the model of the summit, a winter time clinic to kick off the year right. Instead they chug away at profitable summer "camps" after a full year of bad technique.

Oh well, off to gamble while the kids practice with the best in the world.... Did we mention it's in Reno?
