From what I've gleaned from various message boards, here are the specifics on the proposed US pole vault tour.
It would begin in May and continue throughout the summer. It would be scheduled around major domestic competition.
Most, if not all, US pros are on board as well as a bit of foreign talent. They would skip the lion's share of the European Grand Prix season.
Stops on the tour will be determined once a major retail sponsor is on board.
Competitions would be held street-vault style in parking lots of said major retailer, with a stage, portable stands, etc.
Teams of six (four men, two women) compete; each athlete gets a fixed number of jumps; multiple best jumps (say best 4 of 6) are totaled for each athlete; team totals are the best four athletes (three men, one woman). Teams would be seeded for maximum competitive balance.
National TV coverage is also in the works.
All of this is still up in the air, as no major sponsor has been signed. Doing so is a bit more difficult now than it would have been last January, but it seems a small amount of money for the advertising in the eyes of a Target, Wal-Mart or other such big-box store.
