Thinking Outside the Box

If track & field won't cross-promote itself, apparently road racing will.

The BAA is now doing a 5k the day before the Boston Marathon, and have added a mile road race.  Former Hub local Shalane Flanagan is the headliner.

And on May 17th, the day of the BUPA Great Manchester 10k road race, Usain Bolt will run a 150 metre street race.

Original ideas and great for the future of the sport! Road miles have been gaining in popularity the past few years and USATF is actually hosting a national championship for it on May 7th in Minneapolis.

Regarding the 150m race, I am curious to see how the organizing committee sets it up. Will it be on a straight road for 150 meters? They mentioned putting a track surface over the street, but will there be lanes and what is the competition looking like? How many fans will be able to view the race from the stands? Whatever ends up happening, it is a great idea!
